Currently accepting new clients
Elizabeth Langbauer (she/her), LICSW, received her bachelor’s degree in Holistic Therapy from Kenyon College in 2005 and her Master’s in Social work from Ohio State University in 2007. She did hospice social work for six years before redirecting to clinical work. From her first years as a therapist in Yuma, Arizona– where she was literally the only therapist in the city who openly invited LGBTQ+ clients— to a year in Longmont, Colorado, to the recent years here in Burlington, Vermont: wherever she’s practiced, Elizabeth has been practicing her real passion: therapy. She loves creating that deep, one-on-one connection that provides the support her clients need to rediscover the endless depths of their own potential, growing and cultivating their own abilities to live wholehearted, fulfilling, and joyful lives.
Elizabeth’s work is always informed by a holistic philosophy, driving her to help in people’s search for balance and well-being throughout all aspects of life including emotional, physical, spiritual, social, filial, academic, and/or work. She helps clients identify and take ownership of their core beliefs and core values, their own thoughts, feelings, and needs, their own stories, their habits, and their strengths. Her favorite modalities to do this range from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to visualization to a Dungeons and Dragons therapy group. She uses some narrative treatment style, EMDR, game playing, art-based work, journaling or homework and more. She teaches meditation, relaxation, coping skills, communication and assertiveness skills, and promotes the prioritization of SELF care, particularly through Intention and Mindfulness work.
Elizabeth is all about sincerity: what you see is what you get. She has no end of faith in or compassion for her clients, and is also willing to “push” them and to emphasize accountability. She also does her own work, endlessly endeavoring to practice what she preaches, nurturing her own efforts towards self-care and life fulfillment.
Outside of work, Elizabeth spends most of her time with her spouse and their two phenomenal children. Together, they love playing games, spending time with their pets, and being outdoors. As a family, they fight for social justice and environmental protection. In her rare moments of downtime, Elizabeth can usually be found with a book in hand or playing in her ear while she works on her knitting. She finds joy in hiking, gardening, and being still on the water or in the woods. She loves all living things. But Elizabeth is more, still, than these pretty ideas. She is also hopelessly clumsy, crowd-avoidant, and susceptible to wasting time in favor of binge-watching a good TV show. She accepts herself as a mixed bag and merely endeavors to be the best “mix” she might be.
Elizabeth knows that you are not broken—even if you believe yourself to be. She will not try to “fix” you. She will hand you tools, encourage you to get curious, and to be creative. She will help you conquer your demons, get unstuck, explore new horizons, and keep moving forward. She will walk through the fire or the darkness with you, always beside you. But, ultimately, she knows that it is you who will be doing the work, and she is grateful every time she is allowed to join someone on their journey, as they write the next chapter of their lives.
