Sam (she/her) graduated from University of Vermont’s MS Clinical Mental Health Counseling program in August of 2023 and is currently a rostered psychotherapist in Vermont. Sam completed a graduate clinical internship and post-masters residency at Middlebury College working in the Center for Health and Wellness Counseling department. After completing a BS in Environmental Studies and Food Systems from University of Vermont in 2009, Sam worked for several years in the agricultural and horticultural industries before reimagining and transitioning to a career as a clinical mental health counselor.  Sam is also a 300-hour trained yoga instructor.

Sam welcomes clients of all ages, genders and backgrounds, and is especially skilled in supporting college students. Sam has experience supporting people who experience anxiety, depression, relational concerns, identity development, trauma, adjustment issues, grief and loss, and existential questioning.

Sam’s approach to counseling is founded in trauma-informed, feminist and person-centered values. She works with clients to co-create a trusting and safe counseling relationship. Sam centers clients’ diverse identities in the work and welcomes all parts of them into the space with the understanding that all parts of ourselves are deserving of attention, dignity and compassion. Sam utilizes Internal Family Systems, narrative and psychodynamic modalities in her practice, and empowers clients to learn in an embodied way to support their autonomy.

Outside of the counseling practice, Sam often finds herself outside with her dog, Oliver, gardening, biking, skiing or gathering over a meal with friends.

Sam works in the Burlington office, offers telehealth and accepts Medicaid, BCBS, Cigna and MVP.
